Long line trolling is a truly unique form of walleye fishing that I believe puts more quality fish in the boat than all other methods. We frequently put 10-20 fish in the boat with average catches being in the 15-24 inch range, and frequent catches over 25 inches.

When long lining, I will slowly and skillfully navigate the boat over shallow structure, ranging from rock humps, ledges, flats, mouths of creeks, edges of weed beds, and steep drop-offs. At night, big walleye haunt these areas, accompanied by schools of smaller, eater sized walleye that often compete for the lure. I silently propel the boat with an electric Minn Kota trolling motor controlled with a foot pedal - you need both hands for this!

Some nights, you can tell the eaters are faster and hungrier than the big fish, other nights its all big fish. It can vary greatly but the action is always enjoyable. In the summer, we frequently tie into seriously big smallmouth bass, musky, and even the odd large northern pike!

When I guide you on open water for walleye, I exclusively long line troll. It is an art that my mentor and I have dedicated serious time to mastering. I take my craft very seriously, and you can expect a high quality, memorable night of fishing.
