Silent Nights
So why night fish? That is a question I am asked more than anything else in my life. And the answer? It freakin works! The fish are a little less weary, often more active and much shallower than during the day, especially on those super clear, deep lakes. If there’s one thing I like less than the flu, it’s trying to finesse a walleye off the thermocline while yahoos zip by on jet skis, wake boats nearly swamp me, dealing with other fisherman getting within 20 yards of me after seeing me catch a fish… you can avoid all of that by fishing when everyone else has left for the night. More often than not, I’ll get a dismal report from the guys at the ramp leaving, and I’ll have the best night I’ve had in a long time by pulling an all nighter! The fish have to eat to survive. That is one of a few mottos I live by when fishing. They have caloric needs just like you and I. They will bite at some point, and it is often at night when the chaos of the daytime crowds have stopped..
